Private in CO. E, commanded by Captain T. T. Garrard in the 16th regiment of US Infantry, War with Mexico (1846). The son of James and Ann Hare Reid, James Washington Reid married Sophia Garrard (daughter of Col. Daniel Garrard and Lucinda Jane Toulmin) in 1851. Sophia was granddaughter of Gov. James Garrard. They had seven children: Frank, William, Theophilus, Daniel, James, Stephen, and a daughter, Lucy Reid Stivers. After the death of his wife, Sophia Garrard Reid in 1865, James W. married Nancy Gilbert on 12/5/1866 in Clay County, KY. Nancy is also buried at the James Reid Cemetery. Sophia is buried at the Garrard Cemetery in Garrard, KY. REF: 1860 US Federal Census entry# 964. PM and Secretary of Manchester Lodge# 316, F. & A.M.
