Francis Harned Young

Francis Harned Young, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997, at Barberton Manor Care, after a long illness.

She was born in Peonia, Ky., and was a Barberton resident since 1945. For 20 years she was a medical assistant for Dr. John L. Wagner. She had a lifelong interest in the history of Barberton, and worked for many years to preserve and restore the historic Barber Barns. She was an accomplished cake decorator who taught cake-decorating classes at Barberton Adult School and the University of Akron. Her work in tracing her family history earned her a membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and Lewis Harned, and sister, Elizabeth Hoppes. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Oran; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Charles R. Pillitere of Portage Lakes; daughter, Mary R. Kirt of Tallmadge; brother, Joseph Harned of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Margaret Hoff of Cuyahoga Falls, Anna Applegate of Clarksville, Ind., Rita Reeves of Akron, Christina Miller of Jeffersonville, Ind.; grandchildren, Charles W. Pillitiere, Anthony (Melissa) Pillitiere, Lisa Kirt, and Anna Kirtiklis.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 9:30 a.m., at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 95 W. Waterloo Rd.; and at 10 a.m. at St.Augustine Catholic Church. Cremation to follow. The family will receive friends TODAY, 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
