Mrs. John Mullen
Death comes suddenly to well known and most highly esteemed Rossie woman
Ellen Mullen, wife of John Mullen, a well known Rossie farmer, died suddenly Saturday morning at her farm home on the Hammond road, heart disease being the cause. She had been troubled more or less for some years with a heart ailment.
Mrs. Mullen was born in that town about 70 years ago, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hunter, pioneer settlers in that section and her entire life was spent within a few miles of Rossie Village. She married Mr. Mullen over 40 years ago and for years they occupied their farm between Rossie and Brasie Corners. For years they had owned and occupied the old Hunter farm on the Hammond Road. Ten children, five boys and five girls were born to the union, nine of whom survive. Mrs. Mullen was a devout member of the St. Patrick's church at Rossie and she was greatly beloved by all who knew her and the news of her sudden death came as a great shock to the entire community.
Besides her husband, she leaves five sons: John, William, Leo, James and Daniel Mullen, all of Rossie and four daughters, Mrs. Joseph Kelly of Syracuse and Mrs. Charles Simpson and Misses Nellie and Grace Mullen of Rossie, also several brothers and sisters.
The funeral services were very largely attended from St. Patrick's church at 10 o'clock Monday morning. Rev. Father C. J. Crwley, formerly of Rossie officiated, owing to the illness of Rev. J. J. Bent, the resident priest, and interment was made in St. Patrick's cemetery a mile from that village on the Ox Bow road.
