Hammond - Mrs. Minnie Hunter Simons, 73, at native of Rossie, passed away Monday afternoon at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert L. Simons. She was born Feb 9, 1863 in Rossie, the daughter of James Hunter and Eliza Jepson Hunter and resided in Rossie nearly all her life. After the death of her husband in 1922 she came to reside in Hammond.
Mrs. Simons had been suffering from a heart ailment for over two years.
She was married to Daniel Drury Simons, at the Rossie Presbyterian Church on Oct 24, 1883.
Her parents were settlers in the Town of Rossie, having come there from Vermont, where her grandparents had settled when they came to this country from the Cheviot Hills, Northumberland county, in England. Her mother was credited with having been the first person to discover the lead mines in Rossie.
Mrs. Simons was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church at Rossie, and always took an interest in all of its activities. She was treasurer of the Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church for many years.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emma Brassard of Ogdensburg; a daughter, Mrs. Leon Bresett of Macomb; a son, Albert L. Simons of Hammond, three grandchildren, Myrtle and Harold Bresett of Macomb and Lulu Belle Simons of Hammond, besides several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Garner S. Odell, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in the Riverside Cemetery, Rossie.
