Russell Eugene Howell,93, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:54 P.M. on Saturday (08-05-2023) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Russell was born on August 3, 1930, in Decatur, IL, the son of George Howell and Daisy Mae (Woodrum) Howell. He married Emma Jean Mattingly on September 18, 1949, in Decatur, IL. Emma survives him after almost 74 years of marriage.

Russell was a member of the Second Church of God. He worked at Caterpillar for 42 years. Russell was the American Legion Baseball Manager for 30 years plus. He also served with the Macon County Honor Guard for several years. He loved his family very much.

Gene was the father of Sheryl, Sharon, Julie, John, Kelly, Cindy, grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 6.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Cindy Lavonna, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday (08-11-2023) at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home with visitation from 9:00 A.M. until service time. The burial will be immediately following the service at Harristown Cemetery Harristown, IL. Military Rites will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
