Susan was the daughter of Josiah and Melinda (Cowgill) Mathers. She moved with her family from Cass Co., NE to Kearney Co., NE in 1874. Her mother and infant sister died in Dec. 1874 where they were the first graves in Eaton cemetery. Her father then married Mary Jane Conyers in 1875 to help raise the family of 6 children.
Susan married Daniel Thomas on Dec. 12,1889 in Minden, NE.
She was the mother of 11 children, 2 of which preceded her in death, along with her husband of 32 years.
Her children were Chloe, Ernest, Pearl, Daniel, Dora, Deder, Ferne, Belva, Dallas, Fred, and Odessa.
