Eunice May Blanchard Brokaw, a 33-year resident, died Aug. 8, 2005, at her home in Nehalem. She was known to family and friends as "Uny."
She and her husband Lee retired here from Portland where they both worked for meat packing companies, Armours and Swifts. Lee died in 1981 and was commonly called "Unc," a handle given him by their niece Gail, when she was very young and it became "his name." They were affectionately "Uny" and "Unc" to everyone. She was attended by her niece and her husband, Gail and Ron Stinton; their son, Matt, and his two sons, Jesse and Zachary, of Longview, Wash. She leaves one brother, Jack D. Blanchard of Chico, Calif., a very large extended family and many dear and close friends.
Eunice was a Native American of the Chippewa Nation, White Earth, Minn. She was born May 30, 1924, in International Falls, Minn.
The family extended thanks for the support received from family and Uny's friends during her long time of illness. They also thanked her physicians, Dr. Harry Rinehart and staff of Wheeler and Dr. Gerald Gibbs and his staff of Hillsboro/Tillamook. She said many times how lucky and appreciated she was, and asked her niece to "be sure"she told them all how she felt.
At her request, there will be no services. She had decided in the last weeks of her life to donate her remains to science in the hopes that it may help other cancer victims in some way. She asked that those who wish to remember her, do so by contributing in her name to the local hospice.
