Wayne R. Lowry, 86, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, November 24, 2014, at the Simpson Health Center.
A service honoring Wayne's life will be held Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Interment will be held at the St. Olaf Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the V.F.W. and the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Wayne is survived by his daughters, Amy (Tom) DeLanoit and Lisa (Jeff) Nelson, all of Fort Dodge; four grandchildren, Brittany and Triston DeLanoit and Dillon and Sydney Nelson; sisters, Vivian Hanson, Beverly Peterson, Kay Larson; sisters-in-law, Nancy Ackerson, Connie Heiden, Sandy Brand; brothers-in-law, Dennis Sheker, and John Sheker. Wayne is preceded in death by his wife, Erdeen, parents, Viola and Kelly Lowry, sisters, Leone Bryson, Maxine Dorsey, brothers, Gene Lowry and Kalcie Lowry, and his grandparents.
Wayne Russell Lowry was born February 18, 1928 to Kelly and Viola (Evanson) Lowry in Somers, IA. He graduated from the Callender High School. After high school, Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. After his discharge, he worked at American Optical for many years, followed by Soderberg Optical. Wayne also owned Lowry's Carpet Service, and worked for Friendship Haven in the Purchasing Department for 15 years before retiring. Wayne was united in marriage to Erdeen Hocum on February 11, 1966, in Callender. He enjoyed sports and had an avid love for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Wayne treasured time spent with his family.
