Kelly Elias Lowry was born February 14, 1880, at Cabry [sic Cabery], Illinois, son of Elias and Margaret Larson Lowry. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He came to the Callender community as a small boy together with his parents. He served in the armed forces in World War I.

His marriage to Miss Viola Evanson was solemnized at Callender on October 12, 1921. To this union 8 children were born: Maxine (Mrs. Joseph Dorsey), Kalcie, Wayne, Beverly, all of Callender; Vivian (Mrs. Dale Hanson), of Somers; Leone (Mrs. Harry Bryson), of Iowa City; Kay (Mrs. Valdon Nerhus) of Badger, and Eugene of Cedar Falls.

The Lowry's farmed for many years near Somers, Moorland and Callender. For the past 17 years, Mr. Lowry has been employed at the Hormel Packing Co. of Ft. Dodge, with the plan to retire this fall, and assume full-time position as caretake of the new Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Callender, a position which he has held part-time since April 1st.

He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and of the American Legion. Death came on Monday evening, Nov. 17, at the Lutheran hospital where he had been a patient since early October. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and his eight surviving children. Two sisters, Mrs. Inger Sorenson of Roelyn, and Mrs. Otto J. Knutson of Callender and 13 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister, and two grandchildren.

A man of simple tastes and humble demeanor, Mr. Lowry found joy in his family and in his church. His devotion to duty in serving as caretaker of the church will long be remembered. It was his special joy to be at hand at all times to show visitors through the church building.

During the days of his last illness, his humble trust and faith in God never wavered, and he know in whom he believed and found his peace in Jesus Christ. His last wishes were that God would bless his family and comfort them in ths [sic] experience of sorrow. He uttered no complaint at any time, but was resigned to God's Will in all things. In this, he was a real witness to all those who called on him or cared for him during his last illness. His memory is a blessing to many.
