Cathy L. Brown
LOAMI - Cathy L. Brown, 59, died at 3:29 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at St. John's Hospital.

Cathy was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert "Bumpy" and Helen Quinn Bumpus. She married Duane A. Brown on Sept. 6, 1969, at St. Agnes.

They lived in Chicago while Duane attained a doctor of podiatric medicine degree; then in Springfield, where they established his podiatry practice; and finally settled near Loami, where they built one of the first geodesic dome homes in the Midwest. Cathy was an active partner in both endeavors as well as a full-time mother to three sons.

Cathy was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her father and a nephew, Carter L. Selinger.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Duane A. Brown of Loami; her mother, Helen (husband, Leonard) Bumpus Kane of Springfield; three sons, Craig (wife, Marisa) of Hudson, N.H., Christopher (companion, Karen Roberts) of Springfield and Marc (wife, Katie) of Davenport, Iowa; her brother, Patrick Bumpus (wife, Patty Long) of Springfield; grandson, Quinn Brown of Hudson, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Cathy excelled in all her varied roles: wife and partner to Duane, competent and efficient office manager, attentive daughter, strict but fun-loving mother to her three boys, lively and endearing sister, relative, friend and neighbor.

She will be remembered for her great enthusiasm and passion for life, her outspokenness, her devotion to all those she loved and her capacity for laughter, fun and joy.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St., beginning with a prayer service at 5 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., with the Rev. David J. Hoefler celebrant. Burial will follow in West Grove Cemetery.
