Allice, or Lulu as she preferred to be called, was the youngest of ten children of William Wharton Hampton, a farmer, and Susannah Baldwin Hampton.

She lived in Kingwood Twp., Hunterdon Co.

Lulu had an inquiring mind, and she was a budding genealogist. As a young woman, she wrote to her elderly uncle Morris Hampton, her father's oldest brother, about the family origins. His reply would guide later Hampton family historians back to the early Quakers of Wrightstown, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania.

She was preparing to be a missionary at the time of her death. She was a family favorite, and she was greatly mourned.
