Effie Marie Frésquez Chávez, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt was born in Picacho, NM on Friday, June 28, 1935.
Effie was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 13, 2023.
Effie was the daughter of Porfirio Frésquez and María Sedillo Fresquez.
Known to most as Grandma Honey, Effie is the eighth of eleven children.
Effie was preceded in her death by her daughter, María Bernadette Chávez, granddaughter, Jessica Chávez Saxon, siblings, Lucille Laws, Orlando Frésquez, Orfila Ramírez, Alfino Frésquez, Christoval Frésquez, Eliberto Frésquez and Anthonio Frésquez. Effie is survived by her sisters, Prestina Sánchez-Davis of Albuquerque, NM Linda Yrisarri of Humble, TX and Gloria Mendiola of Roswell, NM. Effie also leaves behind her three children, Arthur Chávez III, Mark Chávez (Geri Trujillo) and Victoria Pollack and her husband, Wayne Pollack, several grandchildren, Josh Chávez (Amanda), Estevan Chávez, Andre Chávez (Rachael), Christie Chávez, Amanda Pollack and Stacy Pollack and one great-granddaughter on the way.
Effie was loved by all and lived a full life.
Effie was known for her cooking, entertaining and gardening. Effie loved entertaining in her home both in Santa Fé, NM and Albuquerque, NM. When her Santa Fé grandchildren were attending the University of New Mexico, she would have them over for weekly dinners, welcoming any friends or roommates.
When not with her family, she was an active bridge player in the Duke City Bridge League and the Solo Club. In her younger years and until she was unable, she was an active member in the Solo Club of Albuquerque where she held many board positions and enjoyed all the social events.
Effie was a great friend, mother and loving grandmother.
Her cooking, love for entertaining, and spending time with her family will be missed by all that knew her.
A Rosary will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11509 Indian School Road NE, Albuquerque, NM. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Place in Santa Fé, NM.
