James Cyrus Alexander, 74, a resident of Long Beach for 51 years, died Sunday morning, May 18, at 3 o'clock at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Mr. Alexander was a carpenter by trade and was self-employed. He was a native of Baton Rouge, La., where he was born Aug. 9, 1883. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Jane Alexander, Long Beach; three sons, Edgar H. Alexander, John M. Alexander, and Donald E. Alexander and two daughters, Miss Mauria A. Alexander and Mrs. Thelma Ritter, all of Long Beach; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Allie Connley, Vicksburg. The funeral service will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Riemann's Chapel, Gulfport, and the Holiness Church on 43rd avenue, with the Rev. Bert Phelps, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Allen Cemetery in Long Beach.
