Born on March 23, 1928, to Sallie Mae Thaggard Warren and Early Erastus Warren, Helen Mae was the eighth of ten children and the first daughter. She grew up in rural southern Laurens County and graduated in 1946 from Dublin High School, where she played basketball on one of the school's first girls' teams and excelled in academics. She married the love of her life, Paul Hudson, Jr, on October 17, 1946. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hudson enjoyed working in the yard, taking pride in growing flowers and vegetables and keeping a well-manicured landscape. She enjoyed sewing and made garments for all of her children for many years and later offered alteration services to several special customers. She was famous within her family for her bread and butter pickles and her Brunswick stew. She loved music and participated in church choirs as long as she was able. She was a faithful church member for many years at First Christian Church and later at Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church, both in Dublin, GA. She and her husband celebrated 74 years of marriage prior to his death in 2021.
Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Hudson, Jr; her brothers, William K. Warren, Robert E. Warren, Leland Warren, Johnny Warren, Joseph Warren, Wilbur Warren, Gene Warren, and Hugh Warren; a sister, Charlotte Stembridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Wally Askew; and a granddaughter, Heather Hudson.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home with visitation at 10 am and the service at 11am. Interment will be in Northview Cemetery.
