Daniel Henry "Dock" Hoover was born in Humboldt, Gibson County, Tennessee on February 12, 1855 to Harris Bradford and Anna H "Annie" Newhouse Hoover. Dock was one of thirteen children and his siblings were William Martin, James Polk, Elizabeth A, John Wesley, Thomas Bergeans, Andrew Jackson, Prudence Evelyn Hoover Whittenburg, Benjamin Sanford, Preston Brooks, Mary Eleanor, Mathias Lyle "Buster" and Yancy Lewis "Mike" Hoover.
About 1886, Dock married Ella Lee Love, and together they had four children, Cohn Cohan, Yancy Elmo "Mike", Ollie D., and Ella Mae Hoover. In 1897, Dock and his children had to bury Ella.
On December 20, 1899, in Bell County, Texas, Dock married Lou Ella Hart and together they had four children, Myrtle Serapta, Ila B, Herbert Daniel and Mary Nadine Hoover.
Dock worked in a grocery store and for the telephone company. On January 2, 1940, in Lampassas County, Texas, Dock's family had to bury their father.
