Yancy Lewis Hoover was born, May 31, 1861 in Tennessee, to Harris Bradford and Anna H "Annie" Newhouse Hoover. Yancy was the youngest of thirteen children. His siblings were Willaim Martin, James Polk, Elizabeth A, John Wesley, Thomas Bergeans, Andrew Jackson, Prudence Evelyn, Benjamin Sanford, Daniel Henry "Dock", Preston Brooks, Mary Eleanor and Mathias Lyle "Buster" Hoover. His family were farmers, at that time.

According to the 1880 US Census for Williamson County, Texas, Yancy and Jane W "Jennie" McBryde were married.

At the age of 37, Yancy lost his wife, Jennie in 1899. On January 4, 1911, at the age of 49, Yancy passed away.
