Harris Bradford Hoover was born on March 22, 1815 in Gibson County, Tennessee, to Martin and Sarah Sallie Bradford Hoover. He was born fouth of fourteen children and his siblings were Mary, Massy, Mathias W, Ceily, Elizabeth, Fanny, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Henry, James Marion and Daniel H Hoover.

On December 29, 1835, in Gibson, Harris married Anna H "Annie" Newhouse. Together they had thirteen children and they were William Martin, James Polk, Elizabeth A, John Wesley, Thomas Bergeans, Andrew Jackson, Prudence Evelyn, Benjamin Sanford, Daniel Henry, Preston Brooks, Mary Eleanor, Mathis Lyle "Buster" and Yancy Lewis "Mike" Hoover. They lived in Gibson, Tennessee, where they owned a plantation. According to family history, they had many problems due to the Civil War. Harris and Annie decided to move their family in their wagons, toward Texas. They took a boat passage down the Mississippi to the port of Corpus Christi, Texas. They traveled to Sweet Home, Texas for a short time. Finally, the family setteled in Williamson County, Texas. Harris and Annie had saved $50,00 in gold, which they used to by 175 acres on the Lampasas River. They began the first cotton gin in Williamson County. Their five oldest sons fought in the Civil War and after they were released from confinement, they came to Texas as well.

Both Harris and Annie died in 1873, Williamson County, Texas.
