Donald Duane Bitner, age 91, of Centerville, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Centerville Specialty Care.

Don was born to Vernie B. and Lena Louise (Sauer) Bitner on February 3, 1931 on a farm near What Cheer, Iowa. Don went to grade school in What Cheer, Sigourney, Eddyville, and Cincinnati, and graduated from Cincinnati High School with the Class of 1948. Don married Dollie Leona Kelley in Exline on August 12, 1951, and to this union, one child was born, Debora Sue Bitner on July 14, 1958.
They later divorced in 1974. Don was then united in marriage to Claralea (Parcel) Rosencrants in Las Vegas on May 10, 1975. The couple made their home in Centerville, Iowa.

Don worked for Maytag in Newton, Iowa for a year and George Steeles Packing House for a year. Don then started carpentering in 1950, starting his own Construction Co., repairing and building houses for 25 years. He then took a position as the Building Trades Instructor for Indian Hills Community College for 24 years before retiring in 1997. On May 15, 1960, Don was baptized by Don Prickett in the Exline Church of Christ in Exline, Iowa. Don enjoyed retirement with "Don's Videos" hobby, building and working with computers, transferring photos to DVD, posting memorials on "Find A Grave", working in the yard, making home repairs and traveling.

Left to honor Don's memory are his wife of 47 years, Claralea Bitner of Centerville; one daughter, Debora Sue LaFoy of Marion, Iowa; one son, Robert Arthur Rosencrants of Naples, Florida; grandsons, Dustin Ray Fadiga of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Benjamin David (Kristin) Rosencrants of Atlanta, Georgia, and Aaron Michael Rosencrants of Poplar Branch, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Rachel Bess Rosencrants of Des Moines, Iowa; three great grandsons, Carter Jerry Fadiga and Brady Charles Fadiga of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Colton Henry Rosencrants of Atlanta, Georgia; great granddaughters, Mackenzie Nichole Fadiga of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Brynn Elise Rosencrants and Kendall Jane of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother, Jerry (Judy) Bitner of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie B. and Lena Louise (Sauer) Bitner; one sister, Irma Owens; his brothers, Harry Leroy Bitner and sister-in-law, Ruth Bitner and Marvin Bitner; son-in-law, Jeffery LaFoy; sister=in-law, Evelyn Jean Bitner; his nephew, Dickey Lee Bitner; as well as both grandmothers and grandfathers, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Per Don's wishes, cremation has been accorded. Memorial services are pending at this time at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville. Memorials have been established to EveryStep Hospice of Centerville, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Bitner family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
