THE PARIS NEWS, Apr. 12, 2009: "Robert Junior Armstrong, 85, of Brookston passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Restland Cemetery in Roxton with Rev. Bill Draper officiating. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Armstrong, the son of John Robert and Myrtle Viola Annette Armstrong, was born July 1, 1923, in Wade, Okla. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army as an MP in the occupying forces in Tokyo, Japan. His career with the Texas Department of Transportation spanned 34 years before his retirement. He was a generous man who had a love of life. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and domino player. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dollie Armstrong; a son, Larry Dean Armstrong; five brothers, R. B., Harold Lloyd, Harvey, Martin and Will Armstrong; and a sister, Robbie Jo Armstrong Huggins. Survivors include a son, Mark Armstrong and Tonya Hinkle of Roxton; a daughter, Diane Armstrong Vassar of Paris; five grandchildren, Matt Horn of McAllister, Okla., Crist Armstrong of Minnesota, Casey Armstrong of Minnesota, Kevin Armstrong of Paris and Eric Armstrong of Paris; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bob Armstrong and wife, Janice, of Tigertown, Ed Armstrong of Paris, J. C. Armstrong of Paris and Doug Armstrong of Novice; two sisters, Doris Avery and husband, Clifton, of Paris and Katherine Draper and husband, Bill, of Detroit; along with a plethora of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
