Laura L. Matzke, 93, Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Kolberg, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Door County Medical Center. She was born September 29, 1929 in Algoma to John and Ora (Severin) Nessinger. As a young lady, Laura worked at various places before marrying Marvin Matzke on July 23, 1955 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Algoma. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. The couple farmed in the Kolberg area for many years. Laura loved to bake, play cards, crafting, sewing, gardening and hand writing all of her Christmas cards that she sent out. Laura taught Marvin to dance and they enjoy doing that together for many years. She was a very social butterfly and very easy going. Due to her health she moved into an assisted living facility in Sturgeon Bay, where she felt like a queen with everyone taking care of her. Laura is survived by her four children, June Matzke (Larry Johnson), Luxemburg; Neal (Roberta) Matzke, Forestville; Fern (Tim) Blasier, Green Bay and Amie (Gregg) Pittman, Oregon, WI; granddaughter Jordon Blasier; three step grandchildren Crystal (Jeffrey) LaLuzerne, Angela (Ryan) Kezo, and Bruce Schmidt (significant other Crystal Holden); 12 step great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Lou Nessinger, Algoma; many nieces and nephews, and special friend Arlene Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marvin, infant son baby John, 10 siblings; Caroline Diedrich, John Nessinger, Raymond Nessinger, Phillip Nessinger, Ralph Nessinger, Melvin Nessinger, Chester (Joe) Nessinger, Joyce Arbeiter, Kathryn Zastrow and Mary Jane Young. There will be a public visitation on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Kolberg from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 12:00 PM with Rev. Curt Grube officiating. Burial in the church cemetery to follow. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility in the Door County Medical Center for all their kindness and care given to our mom during her stay there. The Schinderle Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Laura and her family. Express your sympathy, memories and pictures on Laura's tribute page at www.schinderlefuneralhome.com
