Catherine referred to as Kate emigrated to America when she was 19 years old. She was sponsored by her maternal uncle and initially live in Mount Kisco New York before moving to Morristown New Jersey where she worked as a cook/housekeeper for a family called Rogers.
She married an American born man called Rudolph J Grossenbacher of German extraction who worked as a painter and volunteer fireman. Together they had one daughter Katherine born in 1917. She died aged 6 years from peritonitis due to a burst appendix, in 1923, and 6 weeks later her husband died from tuberculosis.
Some years later she returned to Ireland and married a farmer called Joe Gordon from Aughalista. They had no family together.
