John Blanton Jr.
HARKERS ISLAND - Mr. John Samuel Blanton Jr., 81, died Saturday, June 17, 2000,
at Carteret General Hospital.
Born July 1, 1918 in Lattimore, he was the son of the late John S. and Garva
Harrill Blanton. A former resident of Raleigh, he had lived on Harkers Island
since 1990. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II. He was a graduate
of N.C. State University. He had worked as a consultant for the N.C. Department
of Public Instruction.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise
Blanton; a brother, Kenneth Blanton; and a grandson, Robert Lee Blanton.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John Samuel "Sam" III and Sara
Blanton of Wendell; three sisters, Beatrix Ramey of Lattimore, Annette Cline of
Marion, and Sarah Dedmon of Shelby; two brothers, Harrill "Bus" Blanton and
Robert "Bob" Blanton, both of Lattimore; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law,
Misty Ann and Bryan Smith of Garner; a grandson, John S. Blanton IV of Raleigh;
two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Smith and Paige Elizabeth Smith; a friend,
Evelyn Hassell of Beaufort; and many other relatives.
A memorial service will be today from 3:30 until 5 p.m. at the Spouter Inn in
Beaufort.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lattimore Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
