OBITUARY
Hillary Howard Jeffcoat, 87, of Tuscaloosa, AL passed away on August 12, 2022. Hillary was born in North, SC, and was the son of the late Howard and Lou Ellen Jeffcoat. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Whetstone, and his brother, Ben Aubrey Jeffcoat.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mamie Jeffcoat; his sister, Beverly Fogle, and her husband James; his daughter, Sharon Marbury, and her husband John; his daughter, Donna Johnson, and her husband Bill; his grandchildren, Hillary Parkins, and her husband Brad; Mamie Marbury, William Johnson, and Fletcher Johnson; and his great-granddaughter, Hazel Parkins. There are a host of loving family all over the state of South Carolina, who will be hosting an additional celebration of his life.
Hillary left Clemson University to serve in the U.S. Army (with Elvis), serving in Germany during the Cold War. He began his career as a hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Columbia, SC. He devoted his career to the USGS for 36 years, ultimately becoming the District Chief of Alabama. His life of service involved many charitable and civic organizations. Delivering Meals on Wheels for years, culminated with delivering meals on Christmas morning every year with his two grandsons. Even a pandemic could not keep him from serving as a poll worker during each election cycle.
He was a devoted member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church for 46 years. He served Forest Lake as an usher, a coach for the girls' softball team, and a teacher of the Genecians and Men's Sunday School classes. He also led an inter-denominational community Bible study.
The family is so grateful for the love and support shown by the Genecians Sunday School class, their neighbors, their church family, and friends from the Links during Hillary's recent illness.
The family will host a visitation at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, August 17th, at Forest Lake United Methodist, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow.
Pallbearers will be: Bill, William, and Fletcher Johnson, John and Mamie Marbury, Brad and Hillary Parkins, and David Shell. Honorary pallbearers include: the Genecians Sunday School class and Links Golf Group. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Forest Lake United Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
"I have no power of my own. I'll take no glory for myself."
