Joseph's father, Lewis Brunson records in his history:
On the second day of Oct. of the same year (1856) we were doomed to lose our darling again, but alas! not to be recovered as before however diligent we might search. Ah! no, it was Death who, this time, robbed us of our treasure, and we have to look forward to the morn of the first Resurrection when Death will be, disarmed by the power of the Messiah ere we can hope to wrest it from his grasp, and claim our darling for our own. He died and was buried at Payson, we being on our way to G. S. L. City to attend conference.
