1919 Obituary Fillmore, Utah
Well Loved Mother of Large Family Dies
For more than a week the people, not only of Fillmore, but of the whole county, had been solicitously hoping for the recovery of Mrs. Adeline Smith when her death occurred last Sunday night at 11:15 p.m. from pneumonia following an attack of influenza.

Mrs. Smith was born in Fillmore, 57 years ago last January and was married to Joseph D. Smith, October 7, 1880. Her parents, Lewis and Amanda Brunson, were among the early settlers of Fillmore.

Mrs. Smith is the mother of ten children, eight of whom still survive as does also her husband. The children living are John, Lorenzo, David, Parker, Daniel, Lewis, Addie and Myrtle. A son, William died in the year of 1887 at the age of 3 years and another son, Albert, died in 1897 shortly after birth.

She also acted as a genuine mother to Charles, Joseph, Elizabeth, Faunte and Louis. Such a mother was she to them that they could not be distinguished from her own children. Elizabeth, better known as "Libby" was the wife of Milo Warner and died only a month ago.

Myrtle and Addie are the only unmarried children and are living at the family home. Lewis was on a mission in California when called to his mother's bedside. Lorenzo, John and Charles all reside in Salt Lake, David Smith resides at Idaho Falls and the rest of the children in Fillmore.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon on the lawn at the family residence. Don C. Wixom of the Bishopric conducting the service. The speakers were Christian Anderson, P.A. Robison, James A. Kelly, Alonzo Huntsman and William Melville. Musical numbers were rendered singly or in quartet by Edward Nelson, Wm. H. Russell, Mrs. Helen Derrick and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Carling with Miss Ethel Day and Miss Ruth Rosengreen as accompanists.

The large gathering attending the services and the long cortege that followed the remains to the cemetery attest to the popularity and high esteem in which the deceased was held. The speakers were eloquent and unstinted in their praise of her, her good husband, she was a much sought friend and adviser. It was truly said that all who knew her well loved her almost as a mother. Many a tale is now being retold in the homes and on the streets of her innumerable services as a good Samaritan.

Aunt Adeline, as she was affectionately called, endeared herself to every community in the Millard Stake of the LDS Church through her years of service as Stake President of the Relief Societies. She was a sincere, active and efficient church worker all through her life. Faith, hope and charity were indeed typified in her life marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers, not thorns, sunshine, not shadow, did she scatter everywhere. With these she was lavish. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth. Was not her life of God-likeness?

Let us, if possible, gather up the elements of the life of the departed one and weave of them a picture for the walls of memory. The book of life was opened and a new name was written therein by the hand of love. Soon would the unfolding beauties of springtime have charmed her coming. Today the eternal springtime with everlasting glories belongs to our sister. Her life was a rare jewel, her spirit as gold refined in the fire, ready for heaven. This is a case where the whole community feels bereft and the sympathy for the family is warm and sincere. May her spirit rest in peace.
