Clarence C. Hopwood, 78, of Ottumwa Route 6 and a resident of Shahan Nursing Home in Eddyville for the past three years, was dead on arrival at Ottumwa Hospital at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday following a heart attack suffered at the nursing home earlier.
A retired farmer he was the son of Elam C. and Polly Elkins Hopwood. Born in Wapello County Sept. 14, 1890, he was a lifetime resident of the county.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Alice L. Hancock, Mrs. Rosa Lee Cornelius, Mrs. Gean [sic] Stodghill, all of Ottumwa, Mrs Madelin Orman of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mrs. Bethene Bruner of Bloomfield; and one sister, Mrs. Florence Updike of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Chapel in charge of the Rev. Cecil Simonton, pastor of Davis Street Christian Church with burial in the Ormanville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George, Jesse and Bud McFarland, Bud Boles, Robert Martsching, and Francis Bitner.
