Ruby lived with a servant's heart and was always eager to help her neighbors. Likewise, her neighbors in MS and AL returned her kindness on numerous occasions. She was committed to her Christian faith and shared her love of Christ throughout her life. One notable ministry she enjoyed was making weatherproof mats and pillows for the homeless. She, along with her special friends Joe and Charlotte Hayes spent many hours weaving plastic bags, then donating the fruits of their labor to various homeless shelters.
Ruby loved her grandchildren and spent their childhoods doting over them through handmade and yard sale items, trips, picnics and too many sleepovers to count. Other children were also drawn to her and have returned as adults to share their memories of visiting her farm and learning to milk cows, gather eggs, feed the animals, and even make butter.
Living Family Omitted.
She was preceded in death by her father, Saul Highland; mother, Lonie Highland Dickson; stepfather, Rube Dickson; husbands, Boyd Walker, Richard Stanford, Horace Brown; brothers, James Highland, Porter Highland, and William Highland; sisters, Pearl Barrett, Emer White, Christine Cooper, Mary Coggins; son, Jimmy Walker; stepdaughter, Mary Walker. Visitation will be Friday, May 20, 2022, at Ludlam Funeral Home, Iuka, MS beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Following will be a graveside service at Camp Ground Cemetery with Bro.
