Funeral services for Josef Kukrall were held on Wed., Feb. 14, 1962 at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10 A. M. with Rev Fr. C. W. Trautner officiating.
He passed away on Sun., Feb 11th at the home of his daughter, Miss Emma Kukrall in Loyalton, S. D. at 95 years of age. He was believed to be the oldest resident of Edmunds county. Rosary was recited at the church Tuesday evening at 7:30. Active pallbearers were six grandsons; Joe and Duane Aesoph, Wilbert, Clarence, Melvin and Victor Kukrall. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Wagner, T. N. Steen, Ernest Fredericksen, E. M. Fredericksen, Roy Morris, William Allbee, Gust Ertz, Philip Lindeman and Oscar Fredericksen.

Josef Kukrall was born in Austria [1] on January 26, 1867. He spent 86 of his 95 years in South Dakota. At age nine years he came to this country [3] with his mother and they settled at Geddes, SD. In 1890 he united in Marriage to Rosa Carda at Tabor, SD. They had seventeen children [2], ten of whom are living. In 1924 the Kukrall family moved to a farm near Loyalton, SD where they made their home until retirement in 1937 when they moved to Ipswich, SD. Mrs. Kukrall passed away in 1937 (sic). Mr. Kukrall lived by himself until he was 90 years of age and then made his home with his children. Survivors, in addition to Miss Kurall include six other daughters; Mrs. Joe (Cecelia) Kubal of Harlowton, MT, Mrs. Emil (Stella) Kadlec of McGrath, MN, Mrs. Elmer (Josephine) Braseth of Northwood, ND, Mrs. Carl (Rose) Klein, of Ipswich, SD, Mrs Herbert (Mamie) Lindeman of New Brighton, MN, and Mrs. Edward (Sylvia) Aesoph of Seneca, SD. The three sons are Pete of Loyalton, Matthew of Aberdeen, SD and Jacob of Seneca, SD. There is one sister, Josephine Honomichl of Wagner, SD, 43 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren besides a host of friends. In addition to his wife, two sons, one brother, and one sister preceded him in death. The Kreuger-Schriver Mortuary of Aberdeen, SD was in charge of the arrangements.

1-He was born in Bohemia, then a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, thus the reference to being born in Austria. In his citizenship papers he forswears all loyalty to the Emperor of Austro-Hungary.

2- There were two sets of twins who were stillborn or died soon after birth. Twins run in the Carda family. And three sons proceeded him in death.

3-Arrival date 3 May 1886, ship Raetia, New York City.
