They moved to Goldendale soon after and filed for a homestead near Goldendale. They were the parents of 14 children born in Goldendale, 12 of whom lived to adulthood: Florence, Harvey, Victor, Vincent, Laura, Ida, Clarence, Claude, an infant girl who died young, Arthur, Irvin, Irma, Chester and Francis Marion.
He became a minister of the Advent Church. He and his parishioners built a church on the homestead at Woodland and established the cemetery. He and Alice deeded the church and cemetery land to the church in 1905. I am told the church building was moved to a different location.
Family legend passed down from Francis's son Harvey was that he had a half-sister named Ida Thompson. In Hardin County, Illinois, Ida is listed as the daughter of Robert Thompson and Martha Thompson. Ida's sister Bessie's husband James Rainey also confirmed that they had a brother named Marion Rude (aka Thompson). He is listed with their parents in the 1860 and 1870 censuses.
