Son of Sarah Frances "Sallie" Herndon Finegan (1846-1909) and Patrick Finegan/Finnigan (1822-1878). Husband of Essie Lora Smith (1879-1970). Father of Dora/Dorothy Merle Finegan Owens (# 35170853). About 1908 John Richard Finegan lost his thumb in a hunting accident. His health never fully recovered in those days before penicillin and he died of pneumonia two years later. There is now no grave marker, nor any record of actual location of the gravesite. A 1919 hurricane hit Corpus Christi, killing 287 people and raising tides 16 feet above normal. If the grave marker were wooden, it would have easily been dislocated from the grave.
