Illiterate, which explains his wives' spelling the surname differently. Son of Catherine (possibly nee Kelly). Brother of Henry Finnigan (1831-1861, Lowndes Co, AL) and possibly brother of Richard Finnegan (1825-1886, Cincinnati, OH). Immigrated to Alabama by 1840, then to Texas by 1856. Served in Confederate Home Guard in Lamar, Refugio Co, TX. Died near McDade, Bastrop County, TX.
