Phillip E. Hayden, 78, brother of four Muncie residents, died Wednesday in Bronson Methodist Hospital in Michigan.
Mr. Hayden was born in Rollin, Mich., and had lived in Marblehead, Ohio. He had lived in Colon, Mich., since 1979. He retired in 1978 from Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky, Ohio, where he was a master machinist.
He was a member of the Colon United Methodist Church and Saladin Shrine, Grand Rapids, Mich. He was also a member of Oliver H. Perry Lodge 341 and was a past master of Gibralter Council, Sandusky, Ohio. He was a member of Lake Erie Commandary 23, Order of the Eastern Star 91, Colon, White Shrine 433, Muncie, and Three Rivers Commandary, Three Rivers, Mich. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Ann Mutz, Huron, Ohio, and Paula Sue Rohde (husband: Donald), Navarre, Fla.; two brothers, Victor Hayden and John Hayden, both of Muncie; two sisters, Vivian Douthitt and Arvaida Hoyle, both of Muncie; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Hayden Jr., and two brothers, Murvil Hayden and Charles Hayden.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today in Schipper Funeral Home, Colon, Mich., with Rev. Ray D. Flessner officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gardens of Memory chapel, north of Muncie.
