Obituary, Chadwick Funeral Service (New London, NH), Tue, 21 Sep 2021:

Carolyn Stanphill took her sentimental journey on September 20, 2021. Her bags were packed, she had her ticket and was waiting for the ALL ABOARD. Her all aboard came and she was on her way to her heavenly home.

She was born on May 13, 1935. Her parents were Flora Mae and Earl T. Davidson. She had one younger brother, David E. Davidson who was the joy and pride of her life.

She graduated from Central High School in 1953 and a week later she left for California. Her mother had moved there six months before. She spent one year in a nursing program. She discovered that nursing was not her calling. However, she was a born caregiver. She worked for an oral surgeon and then a pediatrician. She was very proud that she was able to be part of the Salk Vaccinations. She and the doctor did 6,000 injections since each child had to have three injections. She worked for the next five years for McDonald Douglas. She managed the insurance for all employees for three plants. She worked the 3-11 shift and went to school during the day.

It was while working at Douglas she met the love of her life, Donald Stanphill, in December 1957. His sister worked with her and introduced them. After a short courtship they were married in August, 1958.

Their daughter Patricia Ann was born November 9, 1960 and their son James Brian was born May 7, 1963, she became a stay-at-home mother. They lived in W. Los Angeles for 5 years. In 1964 they bought a home in Simi Valley, Ca. Since there were no freeways yet Gene had to drive two hours each way to UCLA, it was quite a sacrifice.

She was a volunteer at the children's schools and was offered a job. After testing and several interviews she was hired and worked 15 years at Sequoia Jr. High School in Simi Valley. She was a teacher's assistant. She was happy in this career. She retired in 1983. She had the opportunity to teach an Adult Class for Women Re-entering the Work Force for one semester two nights a week. She took her own advice and took classes for a semester at Moorpark College in order to learn more computer expertise and duties of an executive secretary. She started with Temp Work. She too wanted to know where she might want to work. She worked at three places before she retired from PSI Bearings in Simi in 1995. Gene had already retired early after 34 years at UCLA and was ready to move to New Hampshire. They had been visiting here for several years. They have lived 25 years [in NH] and have been very happy. You could see trees out every window. It was a perfect house for Carolyn. She loved her home. They both volunteered at Council on Aging and the Food Bank.

She is predeceased by her parents, her step-father Al and step-father Glen, her brother David Davidson, her niece Cathy Golden, nephew Christopher Davidson, grandnephew Joseph Ramsey and brother In-law Bart Pond.

She leaves her children Patricia and Matt Jarvis, James and Sharon Stanphill. Three grandchildren Elisabeth, Benjamin and Rachel. Also, a dear adopted daughter, Terrie Rein; they met more than 30 years ago decided they had this special connection. She also leaves Diane Mayfield and Jill Davidson, nieces that are like her own since both parents are now deceased. Diane's children Melaine, Holly, Jacob, John and James. She became aunt Grandma to grandnephews Cody Whetsel and Adam Davidson, Aunt GG to McKenna Davidson. She also leaves behind her aunt and uncle Edna and Raymond, cousins Debbie and Eddie in Trenton, Georgia and Aunt Betty Hammett in Chatsworth, GA, Brother-in-law, Jay (Louise) Stanphill and Sister-in-laws Shirley (Stan) Lozlowski and Judy Bond. She also leaves behind Bill and Kathy Coombs, very dear friends that are of our extended family. Shared many great times together and they always included our family when they came to visit.

Carolyn and Gene were married 63 years, they will be together again someday.
