Helen Elizabeth Staton Kitchens
1920-2007
Helen Elizabeth Staton Kitchens, age 87, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at her residence. She was the wife of the late John B. Kitchens. Born January 31, 1920, in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Calvin Staton and Nora Elizabeth Lawhorne Staton. She was a former member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Preston Garland Staton; five brothers, Larnie G., John M., Daris G., Andrew C. and Gerald H. Staton; six sisters, Dorothy S. Ru-ble, Bernice D. Staton, Essie S. Padgett, Evelyn S. Wingfield, Mar-gurite H. Staton, and Elise S. Ewers. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Wood Coleman, Lynchburg and Sandra Patterson Voigt, Peach-tree City, Georgia; one sister, Edith S. Padgett, Royal Oak, Michigan; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephew. The family deeply appreciates and wishes to thank very special caregivers; Mary Johnson, Meiko Kittrell, Patricia Wade, Erica Wade, and Myesha Johnson for their love and dedication as they cared for both Helen and J.B. during their long illnesses. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charity of your choice. In keeping with her wishes, she preferred a simple funeral and no visitation. She was a kind gener-ous person who loved her home, enjoyed collecting antiques and working in her yard. Many who passed by her home on Route 221 will recall seeing her on the John Deere Tractor mowing her five acre lawn, something she always kept immaculate. Remember her with a smile and as a friend, she would love that. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007, Virginia Memorial Park. Diuguid Waterlick Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
