Mrs. Vernon H. (Essie) Padgett Essie Staton Padgett, 95, of Forest, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at The Carrington of Lynchburg. She was the widow of Vernon H. Padgett Sr. Born in Bedford County, Jan. 1, 1907, she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. Staton and Nora Lawhorne Staton. Mrs. Padgett was the owner of Ivy Post Catering for many years before her retirement, and was a devoted member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Vernon H. Padgett Jr.; a great-granddaughter, five brothers and five sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Edith Padgett and Helen Kitchens; three grandchildren, Gerald Padgett, Deborah Barr and Vernon Padgett; a great-grandson, Douglas Dean Smith; a great-great granddaughter, Kayla Smith; her loving and trusted friend of 34 years, Carolyn Jackson and numerous devoted nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at Shiloh United Methodist Church by Dr. Wayne H. Wiley and Dr. Patrick J. Simon. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road and other times at the residence.
