Ethel Joanne Pierce, 83, of Collinsburg, died Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Born in West Newton on June 18, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William E. Sr. and Aola (Bryner) Backstrom.

Ethel was a secretary for Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood and the Rostraver Public Library. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton and the YMCA Quilting Club in Carroll Twp.

She is survived by her sons, Larry (Cindy) Pierce of Charleroi and Jack (Carolyn) Pierce of Middletown, MD; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Pierce; brothers, Robert Russell and William Backstrom; sisters, Olga Dennick and Viola Dubinshak; and her special companion, Ron Harp.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Stabe officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
