Death Takes Mrs. Chowning
A long-time rural Centralia resident, Mrs. May L. Chowning, 71, succumbed Thursday in a Chehalis hospital following an illness of six months.
Mrs. Chowning, born March 9, 1885, in Nebraska, had lived on route 1, Centralia, for 35 years. For 10 years she operated the Chowning rest home there. She was a life member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, of the Ivy Rebekah lodge, of the First Methodist church and of the Fords Prairie Grange.
Surviving are four sons, Noble H., and Evral A., both of Coquille, Ore., Noel A., Waldport, Ore., and Harry C. Chowning, Chehalis; a brother, Noble H. Clem, Vinita, Okla.; four sisters, Lottie Whitacre, Loveland, Colo.; Miss Nell Clem, Milan, Mo.; Stella Taylor, Centralia, and America Hicks, Tucson, Ariz., 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m., at the First Methodist church in Centralia with the Rev. S. Raynor Smith officiating. Interment, under direction of the Sticklin mortuary of Centralia, will follow at Greenwood Memorial park.
