Albert Vernon Knight
December 25, 1919 ~ May 24, 2013

Albert Knight was born December 25, 1919 in Stephenville, Texas to his parents, Betty Estelle and Thomas James Knight. He passed away May 24, 2013.

He was one of ten children. He had four sisters, Ruby, Nola, Jessie and baby Altus and five brothers; Coy, Clyde, Delbert "D.T.", Oscar and Billy Joe. Despite their age differences they were all very close. No matter how hard times were they always had fun together.

Albert served in the United States Army for 23 years. He was a WWII Veteran with Company E of the 142nd Infantry in the 36th Division. He was also a Veteran of the Korean War. Over the 23 years he earned numerous medals and awards including the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He was stationed in Sarneo, Italy, Germany, Korea, and Japan. He concluded his service in the CID. He served his country proudly until the end.

He married the love of his life, Asuncion Maria Diaz Santos, on January 20, 1962. He nicknamed her Connie which became the name everyone called her. They couldn't stand to be apart for long so they made a forever home with their five girls in Garland, Texas. They enjoyed playing cards with friends and bowling on Wednesday nights together. They both enjoyed filling their home with family and friends, especially on the Holidays. Albert was best known for his famous Cornbread Stuffing he loved making on Thanksgiving and Christmas. His recipe will carry on through his Grandkids and Great Grandkids.

Albert, also known as A.V., Daddy, Grandad, Uncle Al, and Great Grandad, was a son, brother, patriot, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and a caring friend. He would give you the world but never take credit for it. He was a humble man. He never met a stranger, friends were family to him. The first moment you met him you fell in love.

He had a special relationship with each person he knew. No two were the same. He loved his country with all his heart and what he loved even more than that was his family. He didn't care how long it had been between visits or the mistakes you made along the way. He loved his family unconditionally and completely. He enjoyed telling his kids, grand kids and great-grandkids stories about his childhood. The hardest part about visiting with him was saying good bye. Everyone knew that when you drove away you rolled your window down and waved while saying Good Bye and I love you but once you got to the end of their street you had to turn around because he was still outside waving until you passed by again. He never wanted you to leave.

Survived by his brother, Oscar Knight, daughters, Sue Sundin, Linda Gibbins, Tina Adams, Janis Knight, Vicki Schilling, grand children and great grand children.
