Elmer honorably served his country in U.S. Coast Guard during WWII and reenlisted to U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany.
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah and went to receive his master's degree from the University of Michigan in Social Work. Elmer was the Director of Child and Family Services in Lansing, a position he would later retire from.
Surviving are his three sons; grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren as well many other extended family and friends.
