Mrs. Christine Walker, widow of the late Frederick Walker and one of the pioneer settlers in this vicinity died at the the home of her daughters, Mrs. Mary C. George in Kittanning at 10 o'clock last Friday night, June 23. She passed away peacefully, the result of complications arising from the effects of her advanced age.

The deceased was aged 87 years and 2 months at the time of her death. She was born in Fayette County on April 23, 1846, a daughter of Elisha and Rebecca Zufall who were among the early settlers migrating from the eastern part of the state to Fayette County and soon after coming to Jefferson County. The deceased was reared to young womanhood in this county and at the age of 17 was united in marriage to Frederick Walker, also a son of early settlers in this end of the state.

Soon after their marriage the couple settled in this community, establishing the Walker homestead on the hill east of town. During their many years as residents of this community they had been considered one of the towns most substantial and reliable. Mrs. Walker was known to many for her kind and obliging disposition and sincereness as a friend and neighbor. She was a devout christian, a member of long standing of the Sykesville Methodist church. To children, friends, neighbors and acquaintances the passing of Mother Walker brings a pang of sorrow wherever she was known. She had resided with her daughter in Kittanning for the past six years.

The deceased is survived by the following sons and daughters: Pauline Walker and Mrs. Mary C. George, of Kittanning; Mrs. Barbara London, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Orrin Couch of Norristown; Henry of Sykesville; Irwin of Mt. Pleasant; George F. and August of Kittanning and Clarence Walker of Schwenksville, Pa. One sister, Mrs. Samuel Fye, of near Soldier, also survives as do 29 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children and husband, the latter on May 3, 1918.

The body was brought to the Reed undertaking establishment here, prepared for burial and on Saturday was taken to the Walker homestead, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. William P. Walker and family. Mr. Walker being a grandson of the deceased.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Monday afternoon beginning at 2 o'clock. Rev. Clyde C. Ross, pastor of the local M.E. church officiating. Interment was made in the Sykesville cemetery.

Six grandsons of the deceased served as pall bearers. They were: Fred and Paul Walker, of Sykesville; Alvin London of Gracetown; Charles, Clarence and George Walker of Kittanning.

The funeral services were quite largely attended, persons coming from many places to be present. All of the surviving children and a goodly number of the grandchildren were present.
