Edith A. Meritt

Scio-Former Scio resident, Edith A. Meritt, 81, of Madras died Friday. She was born in Mackville, Kan., to George and Sophia (Foster) Bolman. She moved to Scio in her youth and graduated from Scio High School in 1937. She married Donald Meritt on July 11, 1937 in Scio. The Meritts moved to Prineville in 1951, and owned and operated Prineville Taxi for five years. Mrs. Meritt also was a clerk at Prineville's Ochoco Inn and was employed in the Oregon Unemployment Office there. She retired in 1985. The Meritts moved to Madras in 1993, and Mr. Meritt died in August 1994.
Mrs. Meritt was a member of the Prineville Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting, knitting, raising flowers, cooking, camping, fishing, hunting, spending time with her family and friends and playing bingo throughout Oregon and northern California.
Surviving are daughter, Velma Wyant of Atascadero, Calif., and Marilyn Middleton of Madras; brother Estel Bolman of Albany; sisters Aldena Madras of Nyssa and Lettie Randall of Albany; nine grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Meritt was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, a granddaughter, a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday in the Prineville Funeral Hone. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m at the funeral home with Pastor Willard Fenderson officiating. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at Franklin Butte cemetery in Scio.
