Mary "Polly" (McKinney) Grider is the daughter of William and Mary "Polly" (Burke) McKinney. Her date of birth is listed in the Grider family bible as 16 April and in the McKinney family bible as 20 April (both are transcriptions, so I just picked one). She married John W Grider on 22 February 1838. Polly died on 7 December 1868, preceded in death by her husband (1865) and her oldest son, Elijah Sutton Grider (1862)--both causalities of the the Civil War. She left several children orphaned, the youngest (Elizabeth Ellen Grider) being just six years old.
