Obituary
Cankton, Louisiana
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2021 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchman Roman Catholic Church in Cankton for Scurdy Joseph Menard, age 77, who passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at his residence in Cankton.

Interment will be in St. John Berchman Cemetery in Cankton.

Scurdy Joseph Menard was born on October 30, 1943 to Mozar and Philonese Cormier Menard. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton and was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Roman Catholic Church. Scurdy was well known throughout St. Landry and Lafayette Parishes as a notary public and Justice of the Peace for more than 20 years, having had the pleasure of marrying many couples through the years. He also successfully owned and operated Scurdy's Car Wash and Trailer Park alongside his wife, Carole, who kept things running orderly. Together, they also owned and operated Scurdy's Superette from 1971 to 1989. He drove a school bus for St. Landry Parish School Board for more than 30 years. Scurdy had a witty personality and would always have a sly joke up his sleeve. His tough exterior was no match for the love he had in his heart of his family and community.

Survivors include two sons, Chad Menard and his wife, Amy, and Shane Menard all of Cankton; four grandchildren, Matthew Menard, Drake Menard and his wife, Miranda, Hailey Menard, and Shana Menard; and three great grandchildren, Huxton Menard, Allie Menard and Drayson Thibodeaux.

He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of fifty years, Carole Ann Begnaud Menard; his parents, Mozar and Philonese Cormier Menard; and one brother, Carroll Menard.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m Friday in the funeral home

The family requests visiting hours be observed from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and will reopen from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Chad Menard, Shane Menard, Drake Menard, Matt Menard, Joey Menard and Marshall Menard. Honorary pallbearers will be Allie Menard, Huxton Menard and Drayson Thibodeaux.
