Cankton, Louisiana
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton for Philonese Menard, age 90, the former Philonese Cormier, who passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at her residence in Cankton.
Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Musical selections will be provided by Charlotte Jagneaux, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Be Not Afraid, The Old Rugged Cross, and Notre Pere.
Ms. Menard was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton. She was owner/operator of a store and restaurant with her husband. She was also a substitute bus driver for many years. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed feeding her friends and family. She worked alongside her husband on their farm, keeping up with him no matter the task.
Survivors include one son, Scurdy Menard; five grandchildren, Chad Menard and wife, Amy, Shane Menard, Kimberly LaGrange and husband, Jimmy, Joey Menard and wife, Tammy, Marshall Menard and fiancée', Monica Boudreaux; twelve great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Georgia McClain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-three years, Mozar Menard; her parents, Camille Paul Cormier and the former Leoncia Menard; one son, Carroll Menard; one daughter-in-law, Carole Ann Menard; six brothers, Lawrence Cormier, Rousso Cormier, Sam Green, Clarence Cormier, L.P. Cormier, Telesmar Cormier; and five sisters, Mildred Menard, Agnes Bott, Philomine Lanclos, Lydia Menard and Inez Marie Cormier.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Chad Menard, Shane Menard, Drake Menard, Marshall Menard, Joey Menard and Wilton Menard. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Menard, Mitchell LaGrange and Jimmy LaGrange.
Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Avenue Carencro, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
