The untimely death of Miss Thelma Beard at her home in Loving was a shock to the entire community. She had been to a picnic at Newcastle and after her return home, she and a younger brother went into the pasture and took a rifle with them. She had a conversation with her brother about the best place for a person to shoot themselves if they wanted to take their life. He jokingly said in the heart was the best place to shoot, not thinking she was contemplating any such act. After returning to the house, she was found in a room and have been shot with the rifle. Whether the shot was intentional or accidental, we will never know.
During the day at Newcastle, she visited a palm reader and was told she would die in two months. She visited another palm reader and was told the same story.
