Susanna moved to Pelham Bay with her mother Anne Hutchinson, in the the Dutch Colony in order to escape the threats from Governor John Winthrop of Massachusetts. The small settlement was attacked by the Lenape Indians and everyone except Susanna was massacred. She was found by the Indian Chief Wampage and lived with the Indians for just under three years until ransomed back by her brother, Edward Hutchinson.

She returned to Boston, where she married John Cole, son of Samuel Cole, and moved to North Kingston, where they managed the family extensive farming lands.

She is believed to have been buried in the Cole Cemetery, although no stone exists to record the event.
