February 1, 1927 - January 17, 2021
David was born on February 1, 1927, in Long Beach, CA, to Donivan Charles (DC) Crawford and Addie Pearl (Hawkins) Crawford. The family moved to Wasco, CA, in the early 1930s and began farming in the Wasco area. After graduating from Wasco High School, David enlisted in the Army to serve in WWII. He was stationed in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands assigned to the Military Police.
At the end of his service, he returned to Wasco where he married his love, Mae Latta. David and Mae moved to Porter, OK, and operated a dairy farm for 40 years. During that time, they adopted a son, Jerry Crawford. Both Mae and Jerry preceeded him in death.
David returned to Wasco in October of 2011, to live with his brother, Emry. In November of 2012, David and Emry participated in an Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC, which he found an emotional, moving experience. Both David and Emry became involved in supporting other veterans through Honor Flight Kern County.
David completed a lifelong goal when he participated with other veterans and State Senator Shannon Groves on a parachute jump when he was 90 years old.
His smile and positive outlook on life will be missed.
A graveside service will be held at a future date when it is safer for people to gather. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Honor Flight Kern County in support of other veterans.
