Vada Merle Taylor Wilson

March 21, 1920 - March 4, 2006

Merle Wilson passed away on March 4, 2006 surrounded by her family at Bluebonnet House in College Station. Funeral services were held on March 6 at First Baptist Church in Lexington where she had been a member for 52 years before moving to Bryan four years ago. Her pastor, Rev. Clinton Everett of Beacon Baptist Church in Bryan and her former pastor, Rev. Reuel Cooper conducted the services. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery.

Merle was born in Iola (Grimes County), Texas on March 21, 1920 to John Lee and Emmie (Gorbet) Taylor. She and A.C. Wilson were married on March 8, 1948 in Bryan. Merle was a homemaker and a poet.

Her husband, A.C., son, Hugh Bruce Byrne, Jr., daughter, Carolyn Jean Blackmon, granddaughter, Gayla Jean Blackmon, her parents and a brother, A.J.Taylor, preceded her in death.

Surviving Merle are her son, David Wilson and wife, Brenda of Taylor, daughters, Martha Reat and husband, Bruce of Lexington, Janice Benbow and husband, George of Luling, Ann Lee of Fairfield, step daughter, Beth Ann Williams and husband Harvey of Hallettsville, son-in-law Gail Blackmon of Lexington, brother, Joe Lee Taylor of Iola, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Britt Reat, Chris Reat, Barry Benbow, Jason Blackmon, Steven Wilson and Matt Thiem served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lexington or a charity of choice.
