Funeral Services for Joe L. Taylor, 85, of Cross, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday May 1, 2008 at the Iola Church of Christ in Iola, Texas with Donny G. Chappell officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, Texas. Burial will be in Willow Hole Cemetery in Madison County. He passed away at his home Saturday morning. Joe was born to John L. and Emmie Gorbet Taylor in Grimes County. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Metal Smith during World War II. He continued to work as an Aviation Metal Smith for Air Bases and Aviation Manufacturers throughout Texas and in home construction until his retirement. He was a lifetime resident of Grimes County and a member of the Iola Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother A.J. Taylor and his sister, Vada Merle Wilson. He is survived by his wife, LaVania Taylor of Cross, Texas; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Ralph Wayne and Connie Taylor of Mineral Wells, Ronald Dale and Janice Taylor of Elgin, Allan Wade Taylor of Mineral Wells, Gary Joe and Barbara Taylor of Lufkin, Texas, and Randall Keith and Vicki Taylor of Bryan; one daughter and son-in-law, Tana Marie and Donny G. Chappell of Cross, Texas; 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
