MRS. MAUDE HATFIELD
OF GALENA IS DEAD

Operator of Clark Undertaking
Company Dies in Hospital Here
After Month's Illness.

Galena, Kan., April 13.—Mrs. Maude Clark Hatfield, 39 years old, who had operated the Clark Undertaking Company establishment here since the death of her former husband, Porter M. Clark, three years ago, died at 7 o'clock tonight in St. John's hospital in Joplin, where she had been a medical patient a week.

Death resulted from a complication of diseases. According to relatives, Mrs. Hatifield suffered a stroke of apoplexy four weeks ago and had been bedfast since. She was removed to the Joplin hospital a week ago today. Her condition, considered serious from the first, became critical at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon when she lapsed into a coma. She did not regain consciousness. Dr. Nelson Outt of Joplin, who had been attending Mrs. Hatfield since she entered the hospital, said tonight no definite diagnosis of the case had been made.

Spent Life in Galena.

Her home was at Hill Crest but she, with her husband and her son, had occupied apartments over the undertaking company establishment since last fall. She was a member of the Galena A. O. U. W. lodge.

Surviving are her husband; a son, Warren Shaw Clark, at home; a daughter, Miss Billie Jane Montgomery of Galena; her mother, Mrs. Jane Shaw of Galena; five brothers, Clyde Shaw of Joplin, George, Ross, Jess and Jim Shaw, all of Galena; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Clendening of Baxter Springs, Mrs. Mary Eash of Kansas City and Mrs. Minnie Overstreet of Galena.

The body was removed to the Hurlbut Undertaking Company's establishment in Joplin.
